Hi all,
You may have noticed thereโs been no AmsterDads newsletter for a few weeks.
First, we were in Cuba visiting my gfโs family, where we had hardly any internet access. Substack, the tool I use to send the newsletter, was even blocked there. So no way to send it. Then when we got back, my eldest son got seriously ill, and ended up in hospital (thankfully heโs out and finally getting better now ๐).
Anyway, this forced time off has given me time to reflect about whether I should continue with AmsterDads.
On one hand, I love writing it, and have found some great things to do with my own family because of it. Further, the open rate is 70%+ and the feedback has been very positive. Thanks guys! ๐
On the other hand, between work and family, my time is limited. And whilst I definitely want to work on side projects, I have doubts whether there is enough of an audience to make AmsterDads worthwhile (itโs stuck on 50 subscribers).
I want to focus on side projects that can grow and can make revenue (I seem to have a knack of starting fun things, that donโt make any money! ๐)
AmsterDads might be another one of those. Maybe itโs too niche? Probably wonโt get big enough to attract advertisers, and not something anyone would ever be willing to pay for? Iโm leaning that way, but wanted to ask you, my audience first:
If I get enough of a signal that this is something people really want, and would be willing to pay a bit for it each month (less than a portie bitterballen), then I will continue writing and find (possibly paid) ways to grow it. If not, Iโll wrap it up, and find other side projects to focus on in 2023.
Either way, thanks for reading AmsterDads so far! ๐
Cheers,
Dan
